Turramurra, NSW 2074
Turramurra is an Aboriginal word thought to mean either big hill, high place or small watercourse.
The area was referred to as Eastern Road until the new name was adopted when the railway station was built in 1890.
It's a wonderfully leafy, relaxed place to call home, blessed with large houses, generous blocks and lush gardens, making it highly sought after by families. A recreational playground, it boasts 14 parks, including the beautiful Turramurra Memorial Park, a multi-purpose sports facility with cricket nets, an athletics track, tennis courts, soccer/rugby field, a playground and clubhouse.
The neighbouring suburbs of North Turramurra and South Turramurra are bordered by Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and the Lane Cove National Park respectively, providing magical waterways, bushwalks and picnicking spots to explore.
Turramurra's main commercial centre is concentrated around the train station along Pacific Highway and Rohini Street. Here you'll find all of your day-to-day needs including IGA and Coles supermarkets, bakeries, grocers, specialty stores, services such as banks and the Turramurra Library. A number of multicultural restaurants, cafes and takeaways are dotted around this hub, including the locals' favourite haunt Kipling's Garage Bar, a lively industrial chic venue in a former garage serving inventive tapas and craft beer.
There's also a local shopping village on the east side of Turramurra known as the Eastern Road shops where you'll find another IGA, bottle shop, grocer, the much-loved Pottery Green Bakers and more.
Located on Kissing Point Road and serving the Sydney Sikh community, the Guru Nanak Gurudwara Turramurra Sikh Temple is a local landmark, with its ornate interiors and leafy setting.
The quality and abundance of local schools is a big drawcard for Turramurra, reflecting the family oriented nature of the area.
