For many buyers, the kitchen is the one space that can make or break their decision to buy or walk away. Here are some tips on how to effectively update your kitchen without going over budget.

  1. A fresh coat of paint - One of the easiest ways to freshen up your kitchen is with a new coat of paint. Keep it light, airy and neutral – when in doubt, white is usually a safe choice.
  2. Natural light - You want your space to feel bright and airy, good lighting can also make your kitchen feel bigger and more functional. Open up curtains/blinds and remove any counter top shelving that could be blocking natural light from getting in.
  3. Replace your hardware - Something as simple as updating your cupboard handles can give a completely different feel to your kitchen, but make sure you pick something that suits the color and style of your existing space.
  4. Ease and flow - It’s also a great idea to consider whether moving any of your appliances or furniture could improve the flow of your kitchen and make it feel more spacious.
  5. Declutter and clean - The goal is to help buyers imagine the home as their own, so make it clean, simple and neutral. A professional clean is a worthwhile investment and should include ceilings and walls. Make sure your cupboards and open shelves are clean, orderly and decluttered.
