Organising isn’t just about making a space more visually appealing; it’s about making a space that you and your family can feel comfortable and relaxed in. As soon as you step through your front door, you want to feel calm and peaceful.

Below are some tips to help you organise your home and transform it into an environment that is clean and welcoming.

Get into the right Mindset

Decluttering can be a lengthy task so make sure you’re in the right headspace before you get started. Change into something comfortable, take a few deep breaths then pick one space to start organising. Make sure your task is achievable, there is no need to tackle your entire home in one day.

It’s just an Item

Sentimental value is one of the main things that stop people from throwing away items. The important thing to remember is you’re getting rid of a thing, not a person or a memory.

When did you last use it?

Another great rule to follow is if you haven’t used the item in the past year, you most likely will not use it again. We all have those items we’re holding onto ‘just incase’, but these items are most likely just taking up unnecessary space, so now is the time to get rid of them.

Functionality

When cleaning a specific space, such as a desktop or counter space, the first thing to ask yourself is what do you use on a daily basis. Remove anything that doesn’t make that list and place it in a drawer or bin. The less cluttered your workspace or kitchen counter is, the less distracted you’ll be and the more productive you’ll become.

Storage Solutions

The back of doors and cabinets are excellent if you’re looking for somewhere to hang things. Use clear containers to organise small items inside your closets, garages, and kitchen pantries. Or, if you’re limited on space, try vertical shelving or stackable solutions. Lastly, look into furniture that is as versatile as it is stylish. Many ottomans nowadays double as storage containers, so you can hide all of the remotes and blankets when you’re not using them.
