If you are getting ready to sell your home then the most important thing to remember is that we are trying to help potential buyers imagine themselves in your home. By keeping things neutral and clean we can attract more people, so here’s a few maintenance projects you can do to get your property buyer ready!
1. Fresh coat of paint
A fresh coat of paint is an easy way to make your house look cleaner and more appealing, especially for those buyers who want to move straight in without spending any additional money. If you do decide to paint, now is not the time to get creative or bring in your personal preferences, you should choose neutral colours; this will make it easier for potential buyers to envision their own things in the space. And remember, first impressions count, so if possible, you should paint the outside of your home too.
2. Clean the carpets
Before potential buyers look through your home, it is highly recommended to deep-clean your carpets, this will help create a more welcoming environment and an overall cleaner feel. If carpets are badly stained or worn down, you should consider putting in new carpet so the old ones don’t decrease the value of your home.
3. Tidy the gardens
Most people have formed an opinion about a home before they’ve even stepped inside, that’s why the appearance of your facade and front garden is just as important as the interiors. You want to invite potential buyers into your home, not scare them off. Making sure your lawns are mowed and your gardens are neatly presented shows that your home is well looked after and will consequently attract more buyers. You should also use a pressure cleaner to brighten up concrete or paved areas.
4. Check your roof
We don’t always pay a lot of attention to our own roofs, but potential buyers will! Check that the roof structure is in good condition, clear gutters and repair/replace anything that is broken. It’s also the perfect time to clean any chimneys or skylights.
