Plants are a great addition to any home, aside from creating a lovely environment, they also improve air quality and can boost your mood. During winter your indoor plants are going to have a harder time staying healthy and may require some extra care.
Here are some tips to keep your plants happy and healthy over the next few months:
Location:
You may need to consider moving your plants to a different place during winter. Plants need sunlight to be happy and healthy but you should avoid placing them in direct sunlight or spots where they may be exposed to cold blasts. A well-lit room, slightly back from a window, is a great choice.
Watering:
Most indoor plants don’t need as much water in winter as they do during the warmer months. You should start to water your plants less frequently, ideally once a week. If your plants are used to tropical temperatures, it may be better to occasionally mist the leaves with water to give them some moisture.
Avoid 'killing' them with kindness:
Try to avoid killing your plants with kindness - it’s best to check your plants 2-3 times a week to assess their health but don’t fuss over them. Give them attention when they need it and keep an eye out for signs of overwatering, under watering and lack of sunshine. Remember that many plants go dormant in the winter, so it’s normal for them to grow more slowly during this time.
